Daughters of the New American Revolution (Book 3)
A compelling and provocative literary work.
The Sentinel's Daughter, Book III of Daughters of the New American Revolution series, by Maria Ereni Dampman, is a compelling, provocative and no-holds-barred statement about a very contemporary and concerning issue in the United States. This story, in fact all three books, is mostly told from the perspective of the women who play different roles. While there is some dialogue from men, the uniqueness of this narrative is that one sees the "new" America through the eyes of the women who must endure a culture in the near future, one which has regressed from the American dream of freedom and liberty for all, back to a Puritan and Fundamentalist Christian state where women are relegated to a slavish life of serving men, having children and stripped of any real power to do otherwise. The main role played by Emma, who also happens to be the estranged daughter of the most powerful man in the nation, and who has joined the rebellion to overturn the oppressive regime which has a death grip on the nation, shows us just how debilitating and degrading it is for women to be marginalized in a patriarchal society - and the passion with which those engaged in the rebellion, fight against this paradigm which has all but placed women back into cages designed to keep them marginalized and controlled. Clearly, one sees that men are afraid that women could upend their platform, one designed to empower them only.
The parallels to modern day United States, and its more recent regression from its former ideals, a nation where women are once again being stultified and chained by laws enacted largely by men, removing their rights to decide whether they can have babies or not, even limiting the use of birth control methods, all in an effort to get women to conform to a Jurassic and outdated blueprint for the "ideal" society, is a brutally transparent statement of exactly where America is headed if it does not reverse its current direction.
This is an excellent series.
