International Writers Inspiring Change featured book review: Twelve Palominos - a Brig Ellis crime and mystery thriller by master story-teller, Joe Kilgore

Updated: 3 days ago

"Just break-out the coffee, find a quiet corner, and get ready for a great ride - honestly, you won't put it down."

Twelve Palominos by award-winning author, Joe Kilgore, is yet another great novel in the Brig Ellis Tales. Having read the other books in this series, his newest one simply keeps up the pace, the character, the wit and the thrills as Ellis, a former military man now turned private detective, is approached by one of America's wealthiest to help locate something special to him, something he has spent the last forty years of his life in search of. Of course, the job comes with a hefty payout, but more twists and turns and bullets passing his way than Ellis could have anticipated. This series pivots on the character of Brig Ellis, and you just can't help but love his cavalier pursuit of his investigations, moreover his intrepid approach to danger - and bullets, lots of them.

Brig Ellis is a matrix of Jack Ryan, Cussler's Dirk Pitt, and Titus Welliver - the tough Los Angeles cop in Bosch. It is hard not to find qualities to identify with in Brig, a man who lives by his principles but isn't beyond stepping across certain borders to get the job done. The writing is colorful and flows smoothly, seamlessly carrying you to the next page to find out what happens. This is a great series and highly recommended.
