Tell us about yourself
My name is Dr. Moneshia Dashiell. I was born in Atlanta, Ga to Loraine Rich and Joe Gardner. I have three beautiful sisters and two loving brothers. I attended Dougherty County Public school. I graduated from Monroe Comprehensive High School in Albany , Georgia in June 1993 with a strong desire to become an educator who really cares about the well being of children and in doing so, I graduated from Christian Bible College & Seminary in April 2016 with a doctors degree in education.
Over time, I decided to further my education at Albany Technical College where my exciting future was waiting for me. In 2004 I graduated with a degree as an Infant Toddler Child Care Specialist. Then, in 2005, I received my degree as a Child Development Specialist and in 2007 I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Care & Education. I am currently majoring in Child Art therapy and I am so excited about helping children who are dealing with depression and anxiety. Art therapy is a mental health profession that I will use to create a process of art to help improve and enhance the physical and mental well-being of children.
Due to the fact that I have demonstrated my love, care and concern for children I educate; I was nominated for the ACHI MAGAZINE Awards and now I am the recipient of the 2018 ACHI MAGAZINE, The Editor’s Choice Award; the recipient of the 2015 Women Leadership Award; the recipient 2014 Black Essence Award; and the recipient of the 2013 Black Essences Award. Two of my books were honored and placed in the Black Writers Museum and six of my children books were honored and placed in the Clemson Area African Museum.
What inspired you to start writing?
As an educator, I can truly say that my students have really inspired me to continue to author books like never before, and it is simply because I have had the opportunity to see my students go from struggling to advancing in their academics, when my books were presented to them. They are now encouraged to learn, and they are doing it with a smile.
Is there a message in your books?
I am changing the world because “I am too busy mothering nations through education”, and now my students are too busy advancing. I am so honored to know that readers such as my student’s parents have said that I make reading and math easy, that I make learning fun and that my books are a must buy.
Tell us about your book.
My Alphabet Friends is a fun book to read and I really do believe that when people purchase it for their children it will relax them and allow them to be challenged about what they are reading. The purpose of My Alphabet friends is to introduce the sounds and letters of the ordered alphabet to kindergarten through fifth grade children. This book will provide opportunities for: building vocabulary, developing conversation, proficiency in oral language, increase phonemic awareness, and sequencing.
My Alphabet Friends also presents letters of the alphabets with corresponding words, images, upper case letters and lowercase letters. The children that I educate daily inspired me to write this fun reading book. During my internship as a college student I came across children who did not know how to read, did not know the letters of the alphabet or the sounds that each letter makes.
What’s coming up?
I am preparing to release a new book entitled “All About B words”. This book will be a great help to pre-k through kindergarten students to enhance their reading skills and to be able to hold a simple conversation with other people or children.
